Krishnadevaraya

Krishnadevaraya, ruler of  Vijayanagara kingdom between 1509-1529 was one of the greatest statesmen which medieval South India had produced.The Vijaynagar Kingdom rose to its highest peak of glory during the reign of Krishna Deva Raya.

Not only he was an able administrator and a great warrior but he was also a scholar, a poet, a musician and a kind king. He was loved very much by his subjects and he even treated his enemies with honor. He won all the wars he had waged during his rule.

 On Jan 27, 2011,500th coronation year of Krishnadevaraya India post issued a stamp and miniature to commemorate this occasion.

Jawaharlal Nehru & Talkatora Stadium

On 1st August,2010 India Post issued a set of 2 stamps and a miniature for the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium  & Talkatora Stadium.

The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium,Delhi was first constructed by Government of India to host the 9th Asian Games in 1982. The stadium has undergone a refurbishment to host the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games Opening ceremony as well as the Closing ceremony.

Talkatora Indoor Stadium is an indoor stadium located in New Delhi.The stadium has a capacity of 3035 people.The stadium is a venue for the 2010 commonwealth Games for the event of boxing.

Rath Yatra, Puri

Rath Yatra, the Festival of Chariots of Lord Jagannatha is celebrated every year at Puri, the temple town in Orissa, on the east coast of India.

The presiding deities of the main temple, Sri Mandira, Lord Jagannatha, Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra, with the celestial wheel Sudarshana are taken out from the temple in an elaborate ritual procession to their respective chariots.

The huge, colorfully decorated chariots, are drawn by hundreds and thousands of devotees to Lord Jagannatha's  aunt' s temple, the Gundicha Temple which is situated at a distance of 2 km from  his temple.


To commemorate this occasion India Post issued a special commemorative stamp and a miniature on 12th July, 2010.

Pigeon & Sparrow



Miniature Sheet

On Jul 9, 2010,India Post issued a set of 2 stamps on Pigeon & Sparrow. Each stamp depicted images of male and female pigeons and sparrows.

Pigeons are distributed everywhere on Earth, except for the driest areas of Sahara Desert,Antarctica and its surrounding islands and the high Arctic. Pigeons are seen quite common at every place in India.

The Old World true sparrows are indigenous to Europe,Africa and Asia.In Australia & America's, early settlers imported some species which quickly naturalized there.

House Sparrows,are seen throughout India in quiet decent numbers.Since last decade they are decreasing in number very quickly,and facing the threat of extinction.

Queen's Baton Relay - 19th Commonwealth Games,Delhi 2010.

The Queen's Baton Relay began when the baton left Buckingham Palace on 29 October 2009. The baton will arrive at the 2010 Commonwealth Games opening ceremony on 3 October 2010, after visiting the other 70 nations of the Commonwealth and traveling throughout India.

Baton Reached India on 25th June 2010 through wagah border from Pakistan, to commemorate this occasion India post issued a set of 2 stamps along with a Miniature.


The miniature shows the route of the Queen's Baton Relay,along with the muscat of 2010 Commonwealth Games,Delhi.
